The Rejector, The Repentant, and the Reverent
Luke 23:32-49
- Jesus calls for forgiveness.
- The people mocked and insulted Him.
The First Sinner joined the mocking crowd. (v.39)
- He was the rejecter.
The Second Sinner saw his own wickedness compared to Jesus’ innocence. (v. 40)
- He was the repentant.
The Third Sinner stood in awe of God. (v. 47)
- He was the reverent.
6 Elements of Repentance
Remorse – Convicted of sin
Remove – Abandonment of sin
Revelation – Confession of sin
Restitution – Making it right
Reflect – Obedience to the Word
Receive – Forgiveness from Jesus
Reverence is an attitude of deep respect, mingled with love, tinged with awe.
Main Point: To be true disciples we must accept Jesus with repentant reverence.
