Wedding Policy

FAQ Answered…

  • We only do weddings for members and regular attenders of Brady Lane Church, and members of their immediate family.
  • At Brady Lane Church, a wedding ceremony is a Christian worship service.  We are blessing this marriage under God, and therefore it will be treated in manner in which reflects our worship of the Creator and His created order.  We believe that marriage is something created by and defined by God as one man and one woman uniting their souls to become one.
  • Because biblical marriage assumes complete sexual fidelity between husband and wife, we expect engaged couples to practice abstinence until the date of the wedding.
  • If you are interested in celebrating your wedding here in our building, please call the church office to set up the first of your premarital counseling sessions.  This should be done no less than six months before your wedding.  Usually the Office Manager can inform you if the desired date is still available.
  • At the time of your first counseling session, we will confirm your wedding date and arrangements.  Please do not make any announcements concerning your wedding or order announcements or other dated materials until after this first session.
  • A fee schedule has been included for your convenience.  A deposit is necessary to place your wedding on the church calendar.  Please feel free to call the office with any concerns or questions.
  • Also be aware that due to security concerns, video cameras have been installed in all areas of the building except for the bridal party changing rooms (Rooms #203 & 102) and restrooms.  All other spaces of the church are monitored by video surveillance and recorded.

Congratulations on your approaching wedding.  We wish for you His every blessing at this joyous time in your life.

WEDDING POLICY

MINISTER

The minister of the congregation shall officiate at all marriages in the church, except in situations where other arrangements have been made in advance.  Ministers of another church or fellowship may perform ceremonies at Brady Lane Church at the approval of the Elders.

LEGAL MATTERS

A marriage in the state of Indiana is only valid if performed by an authorized court official or an ordained minister.  Only couples presenting a valid Indiana marriage license may be married by said officials.  A license may be obtained by written application in the office of the Clerk of Courts, Tippecanoe County Court House (2nd floor), Lafayette, Indiana for those couples where one of the individuals is a legal resident of Tippecanoe County.  Both individuals must apply in person. A fee will be collected and only cash is accepted.  Identification is required. There is no waiting period.  The bride-elect no longer must show proof of a recent Rubella screening.  The license is good for a period of sixty days.

(For information see:  www.tippecanoe.in.gov/)

PREMARITAL CONFERENCES

The bride and groom shall arrange a premarital counseling with the minister as far in advance of the ceremony as possible.  A minimum of sixteen weeks is needed between the first session and the wedding date.  The total number of counseling sessions that will given is 4.  Consent for the wedding will be offered or denied at the first session.  A non-refundable deposit (see fee schedule) is required to place the wedding on the church calendar.  The first conference must be held before any announcements are made.  No printed materials should be ordered before this first meeting.

FACILITIES

¨ Our sanctuary is available for both formal and informal services.  Seating capacity is 300. An electronic piano and an organ are available.  The room is fully equipped for media display.

¨ The Chapel/Fellowship Hall area may be used for informal settings with a capacity of approximately 100.  A piano is available.

¨ Fellowship Hall is available for rehearsal dinners or receptions.  Seating capacity is approximately 100.  Table and chairs are provided for this area  (set-up not included).   (Janitorial services do not include take-down of tables and chairs.   This service can be arranged in advance.)

¨ Dressing rooms are available for the bridal party.

SCHEDULING

Your wedding will be placed on the church calendar only after a scheduling deposit is received.  The building will also be reserved the evening before the ceremony in order to hold a rehearsal.

MUSIC & MEDIA

Music used within the ceremony should be in keeping with the sacredness and dignity of the wedding service.  If you desire, the minister may furnish a list of appropriate selections.  Vocal music may be used, but is not a must.  It is preferable for one of the regular church musicians to play for the wedding. (See fee schedule.)  The minister must approve other organists and/or soloists. The pianos may not be moved.  The electronic grand is fully Midi compatible.  The sound booth is equipped to use CDs, tapes, DVDs, and video.  The lighting system is electronically controlled and can be adjusted to the needs of your photographer or for a candlelight setting.  We do not provide recorded music. If you want a CD to be played you must provide it.

SOUND TECHNICIAN

If your service will include visual media or the use of recorded music, a church sound technician is required to be present to run the equipment.  There will be a fee for this service.  Because of the technical issues involved, a volunteer can not be substituted.

PHOTOGRAPHS

Flash photographs may not be taken during the ceremony proper.  Pictures may be taken during the processional and recessional.  After the recessional, the wedding party may return for as many pictures as are desired.  A photo session may also be scheduled several hours before the service.  Videotaping may be done.

RICE

Rice throwing is prohibited.  In recent years, it has become popular to use birdseed or bubbles instead of rice. These must be done outside the building.

FLORAL DECORATIONS

Florists are required to clear plans with the minister prior to decorating the church, or any portion thereof.  Flowers used must be in clean, rust-free, leak-proof containers.  Only mechanical or oil candles my be used to prevent dripping on the floor.  In the event of dripping on furniture, floor, or carpets, the florist and/or family shall be responsible for cleaning and reimbursement for damage.  Church premises shall be left as clean as possible after removal of decorations.

APPOINTMENTS

Two large white matched candelabrum are available for use at no cost.  They may be decorated as desired. The church does not have pew lights, “marriage candle” and holder, Prei-dieu or an aisle cloth.  These, if needed, must be secured elsewhere.  The aisle cloth, if used, should be approximately 55 feet long.  Plastic aisle cloths are not recommended.  For your convenience, rented appointments may be stored at the church building until they can be returned after the ceremony.

RECEPTION

The church fellowship hall may be used for the rehearsal dinner or the wedding reception.  These events may be catered privately, or the family may choose to host the event.  The church does not provide china, linen, or paper products.  You or your reception host are responsible for clean-up of the church kitchen, if it is used.  The set-up and take-down of the tables and chairs are your responsibility, unless other arrangements have been made in advance.  If the church calendar is free, it may be possible for you to set-up the fellowship hall well in advance of the service

ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES/SMOKING

It is expected that the members of the wedding party will refrain from alcoholic beverages immediately preceding both the rehearsal and the wedding.  No alcoholic beverages are to be used in the punch or permitted on the premises.  There shall be no smoking in the sanctuary, reception room, restroom, or any other place within the church grounds.  The bride and groom shall make these rules known to all the members of the wedding party.  Any violation of this policy can result in the cancellation of ceremony and or reception.

PRINTING/RECORDING

If desired, wedding bulletins for the service can be printed in the church office.  Bulletin paper must be provided. Costs vary depending on number needed and if print is in black & white or color.  Final draft must be approved no later than 2 weeks prior to the ceremony or other printing arrangements will need to be made.

Pets

Pets are not allowed in the building or as part of the wedding service unless they are a service animal (ie. Seeing eye dog).

FEE SCHEDULE

Wedding services are provided as a service to the membership of our congregation. However, because costs are incurred by the congregation to host your event, and because scheduled weddings  prevent usage of our building for regularly scheduled events, we do request a deposit of $60.00 to place your event on the church calendar. (This fee is non-refundable)

All fees must be paid at least 30 days prior to the ceremony. If the fees are not received at this time, the wedding may be postponed or cancelled.

Custodial services are for general cleaning.  The janitor will come in shortly after the wedding has ended. Decorations used in the sanctuary that are not removed will be discarded. Set-up and take-down of tables and chairs in the fellowship hall for receptions is not included. Rental appointments can be stored over the weekend if desired but please let us know in advance.

For tax purposes, fees are also collected for the use of church musicians. If these fees are in excess of what you can afford, please contact the church leadership to discuss your options.   In some cases, musicians may be willing to provide their services for free as a gift to the bride or groom or both.
